Water Corporation’s Mundaring STP was recently upgraded to a state of the art membrane bioreactor process to enable full non potable reuse of the treated water.
A HUBER S-Disc Thickener was installed as part of the new works to mechanically thicken the excess biomass produced from the biological process, in order to reduce offsite disposal volumes and transport costs.
“HUBER’s Disc Thickener is compact, fully enclosed and completely made from stainless steel. Its unique baffled outlet results in higher thickening performance as compared to traditional drum and belt thickeners.
The output of the machine is 3.6 – 4% dry solids from an input of 0.4%. That’s a 90% reduction in the volume of sludge that would otherwise need to be transported” says John Koumoukelis of Hydroflux.
HUBER’s S-DISC Thickener is part of a group of sludge treatment technologies available through Hydroflux HUBER. The S-DISC is typically used to thicken biological and chemical sludge prior to off site transport, dewatering or digestion. There are several sizes available to cater for flows from 3 to 40m3/h.
Its high thickening capability results in high volume reductions. With a maximum internal speed of 10RPM and very few moving parts, power and maintenance costs are greatly reduced as compared to conventional technologies.
