With Hydroflux Epco’s expertly designed clarifier options, operators benefit from reduced operational costs, lower maintenance demands, and enhanced treatment outcomes.
Stamford Baffles Controlling Density Currents
Hydroflux Epco offers Stamford baffles as an integral component of clarifier systems to improve the efficiency of the sedimentation process. Installed just below the launder system, these baffles are designed to eliminate density currents that can disrupt the settling of sludge flocs. By redirecting flow away from the launder and guiding sludge towards the centre of the clarifier tank, Stamford baffles ensure that sludge remains undisturbed during the settling process and prevent it from rising into the launder system, thereby enhancing overall clarifier performance and effluent quality.
The Stamford baffle is securely fixed to the clarifier wall just below the launder trough, sloping downward at a precise angle and extending towards the centre of the tank. This design effectively controls hydraulic currents within the clarifier, promoting uniform flow distribution and consistent sludge settlement, which is essential for optimal clarifier operation.
Hydroflux Epco’s Stamford baffle system is constructed using high-quality, corrosion-resistant materials to ensure long-term reliability in submerged environments. The system comprises:
- An array of GR316 stainless steel brackets, providing structural strength and durability
- HDPE baffle plates that are lightweight, durable, and resistant to chemical corrosion, secured to the brackets using stainless steel fasteners
- Stainless steel threaded rods that are drilled and anchored into the clarifier’s civil structure, fixed with a high-strength polyester resin specifically designed for submerged conditions
This robust design ensures that the baffle system remains securely in place, even under challenging operational conditions, offering reliable performance and minimal maintenance requirements over the lifetime of the clarifier. Hydroflux Epco’s Stamford baffles are an essential addition to any clarifier system, delivering improved sludge management, reduced risk of carryover, and enhanced overall treatment efficiency.

Launder Shield® Blocks Sunlight to Prevent Algae Growth
The LaunderShield system from Hydroflux Epco enhances clarifier performance by preventing algae growth within the launder trough, effluent weirs, and scum baffle. Made from interlocking fibreglass or stainless-steel hatches, it provides complete coverage, blocking 100% of sunlight to eliminate algae formation that can hinder clarifier efficiency, increase maintenance efforts, and reduce effluent quality.
While offering full coverage, the LaunderShield system is designed with accessibility in mind. The hatches can be easily opened, allowing operators full access to the launder trough for inspections, cleaning, and maintenance without the need for complex dismantling.
The system’s primary advantage is the significant reduction in labour-intensive maintenance associated with algae removal. By preventing algae growth, LaunderShield minimises manual cleaning requirements, reduces operational downtime, and ensures consistent clarifier performance..
Built from corrosion-resistant fibreglass or stainless steel, the LaunderShield system is durable and reliable, withstanding harsh wastewater environments while maintaining its integrity over time. It is a practical and essential solution for wastewater treatment facilities looking to improve efficiency, reduce maintenance, and ensure high-quality effluent.

Scum Removal Efficiently Collects and Removes Surface Scum
Scum collection and removal from clarifiers are efficiently managed using a radial surface scum scraper with a hinged skimming mechanism and a self-flushing scum box. The radial scum scraper collects floating scum from the water surface and directs it toward the tank’s perimeter. As the scum reaches the edge, it is contained by a dam formed by the pivoted skimmer blade, hinged skimmer blade, and peripheral scum baffles. When the hinged skimmer reaches the scum box, the trapped scum is discharged through the box.
The scum box is fitted with a mechanically activated reflux valve, operated by an extension arm connected to the valve flap spindle. As the clarifier bridge passes over the scum box, an actuating angle mounted under the bridge strikes the valve spindle, opening the valve. This allows the collected scum, along with a portion of settled effluent, to be flushed out of the tank. Additionally, a rubber wiper attached to the hinged skimmer continuously cleans the inside surface of the peripheral scum baffle with each revolution, ensuring efficient scum removal and system cleanliness.
This integrated system ensures efficient and reliable scum removal, reducing manual intervention, minimising maintenance requirements, and maintaining optimal clarifier performance for improved water treatment outcomes.

CleanSweep® Roller Brush System Combats Algae Build-Up
The CleanSweep roller brush system from Hydroflux Epco is a highly effective solution for combating algae growth in clarifier launder troughs, addressing one of the most persistent challenges in wastewater treatment. Algae buildup in clarifier launders can obstruct flow, reduce operational efficiency, and increase maintenance efforts. CleanSweep tackles this problem directly with a well-engineered, automated cleaning system that ensures the launder remains clean and free of algae without the need for frequent manual intervention.
The CleanSweep system divides the launder trough into five distinct zones, with a dedicated roller brush continuously cleaning each zone. This zoned approach ensures thorough and consistent cleaning across the entire launder surface, preventing algae from establishing and growing. Each roller is designed to operate continuously, providing regular mechanical brushing that disrupts algal growth before it becomes problematic.
Hydroflux Epco has incorporated a unique bristle design that enhances the effectiveness of the CleanSweep system. The bristles are engineered to apply a retarding rotational force that scrapes and dislodges algae from the launder surface, ensuring that even stubborn growth is removed. This design ensures that the launder remains clear, maintaining optimal flow and reducing the risk of blockages.
The CleanSweep system offers numerous operational benefits, including reducing the need for launder spray systems, which can be water-intensive and less effective over time. By automating the cleaning process, CleanSweep eliminates the need for operators to manually enter the launder trough, improving workplace safety and reducing labour costs. It also replaces ad-hoc, homemade cleaning solutions that are often inconsistent and inefficient, providing a reliable, low-maintenance alternative that enhances overall clarifier performance.

EdiGate® Energy Dissipation Inlet System
The EdiGate system from Hydroflux Epco is an innovative solution designed to optimise the flocculation process in clarifier feed wells by eliminating the need for mechanical mixing. Traditional flocculation zones often rely on mechanical mixers to promote the aggregation of particles, which can increase energy consumption and maintenance requirements. EdiGate addresses these challenges with a passive energy dissipation design that ensures effective flocculation without the need for mechanical intervention, resulting in more efficient and cost-effective clarifier operation.
Available in both fixed gate and hinged gate designs, the EdiGate system utilises a tangential flat gate structure to reduce the velocity and jetting effect of incoming liquor as it enters the clarifier feed well. By dissipating the kinetic energy of the incoming flow, EdiGate promotes gentle mixing and uniform distribution, which is crucial for the formation of stable floc particles. This controlled environment enhances the settling process, ensuring that flocculated sludge settles efficiently and reducing the risk of sludge carryover into the effluent.
For larger clarifier designs, EdiGate® is available with a double gate arrangement at each discharge port. This configuration increases the interference of flow between neighbouring ports, further enhancing the mixing and flocculation process. By promoting greater interaction between incoming flows, the double gate system improves the formation and settling of floc particles, leading to higher-quality effluent and more effective sludge management.
The EdiGate system offers several operational benefits, including reduced energy consumption by eliminating mechanical mixers, lower maintenance requirements due to fewer moving parts, and improved clarifier performance through better floc formation and settling rates. Hydroflux Epco’s EdiGate is a reliable and efficient solution for modern clarifier systems, ensuring optimal performance while reducing operational costs and complexity.
