Turnkey Septage Sludge Receival Systems Commissioned for Kaikohe and Kaitāia WWTPs

December 2, 2025

Far North District Council operates fifteen wastewater treatment plants including Kaikohe and Kaitāia, which processes wastewater from 1600 and 2500 properties respectively, and both sites accept sludge from the northern towns and other treatment plants within the Far North District region.

Hydroflux was contracted to deliver complete septage receival systems as a design build model to ensure full integration of process, mechanical and electrical control works.

Project Highlights

  • Project delivered as a turnkey solution by our local project delivery team including process design, mechanical installation, electrical control panels, automation/controls, pipework and valving, contract documentation, commissioning and operator training
  • Each site accepts septage from tankers sized from 4 – 10 kL
  • Tanker discharge volumes are recorded via the control system to track monthly volumes processed
  • Removal of coarse screenings and debris prior to discharge into the wastewater treatment plant protects the downstream processes from accumulation of solids that can impact plant performance

Technology Highlights

  • Each site was provided with a HUBER Rotashield® and WAP Wash Press
  • The inlet manifold included an automatic valve, stone/rock trap and flowmeter
  • Rotashield® is a heavy-duty drum screen that removes coarse screenings, rags, plastics and gross solids
  • WAP Wash Press washes and compacts the screenings
  • All stainless steel fabrication
  • Local design, fabrication and programming of automation/control system
