Huber BT Belt Dryer
Sludge Drying with the HUBER BT Belt Dryer
The HUBER BT Belt Dryer provides an advanced, energy-efficient solution for drying sludge with high moisture content. Employing a continuous belt drying process, the system distributes sludge evenly on a conveyor belt and subjects it to heated air. This effectively reduces moisture levels, producing high-quality dried sludge suitable for agricultural use, energy recovery, or safe disposal as Class A biosolids.
Designed to maximise efficiency, the dryer supports multiple heat sources, including waste heat and renewable energy, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability. Expertly engineered and manufactured in Germany by Huber, this technology is setting new benchmarks for sludge drying.
Hydroflux Epco is currently engaged in several significant and exciting projects across Australia and New Zealand, which are expected to become operational soon. Explore the HUBER BT Belt Dryer below.

Innovative Design and Efficient Function of the HUBER BT Belt Dryer
Modular Design for Flexible Capacity
A two-belt system transports and breaks up the sludge, exposing new surfaces for efficient drying. The sludge height is continuously monitored and adjusted by the control system. This modular design not only provides scalability for varying sludge quantities but also allows for easy maintenance and potential future expansions. The segmented construction ensures that each section operates independently, enhancing reliability and simplifying troubleshooting. The belts are driven by frequency-controlled motors, allowing precise control over the sludge’s movement through the dryer. This flexibility makes the system adaptable to different sludge characteristics and varying plant requirements.

Adjustable Dry Solids Content
The final dry solids content can be adjusted between 70% and 90% using a solids probe that controls the belt speed based on the moisture levels at the outlet. The probe continuously measures the moisture content and automatically adjusts the belt speed to maintain the desired solids concentration. This feature ensures a consistent output quality regardless of fluctuations in input sludge conditions. The ability to fine-tune the drying parameters helps optimise the drying process, reducing energy consumption and ensuring compliance with disposal or reuse requirements.
Energy-Efficient Heat Exchange System
The unique HUBER HELIX airflow system ensures that only the minimum required amount of drying air is blown through the dryer by the ventilators. In combination with the CFD-optimised dryer geometry, an extremely low electrical energy demand is achieved with this air flow system.
The closed process air circulation system with an integrated condensation stage reduces the exhaust air volume flow to 5,000 m³/h maximum and contributes to keeping operating costs down.
