The Earthpower facility located in Sydney is an innovative waste to energy plant that processes multiple waste streams for the production of energy and fertilizer.
As part of its anaerobic treatment process, a HUBER Strainpress® Sludge Screen was installed to screen unwanted material from the digested sludge stream, such as plastics, paper, rags etc which would build up in the process.
This is the second unit to be installed onsite and was required as part of an expansion of the facility.
“HUBER’s Strainpress® is not only suitable for municipal sewage applications, but also this type of advanced solids anaerobic facility and thermal hydrolysis applications.
We are pleased to supply Earthpower this second unit as this facility is a world class energy/biomass production plant.
And the Strainpress® plays an important role in removing fine material that reduces maintenance costs associated with the digester and downstream biomass processing equipment” says John Koumoukelis, Director of Hydroflux Pty Ltd.
The HUBER Strainpress® is an inline screen designed specifically to operate under pressure and to remove screenings from sludge. It is typically installed upstream of the digester, to ensure fine screenings are removed prior to digestion.
Its main benefit is a significant reduction in maintenance associated with ragging of mixers, pumps and heat exchangers.
