HUBER Strainpress® Sludge Screen Machines – For Primary and Secondary Sludge

Sydney Water’s largest STP is currently being upgraded by 4Malabar Alliance (GHD, UGL, John Holland and Sydney Water) to improve reliability and performance of the treatment plant.

As part of the upgrade, new mechanical equipment will be installed in the plant’s inlet works and bio-solids facilities. HUBER Strainpress® Sludge Screens will be installed in the digester feed lines, to remove screenings and fibre from primary sludge settled in the primary sedimentation tanks.

The HUBER Strainpress® machines will result in a significant reduction of maintenance costs associated with digester operation. Heat exchangers, recirculation pumps and nozzles will all operate with increased levels of reliability, due to the removal of fine screenings.

“HUBER’s Strainpress® is one of those machines that is amazing to watch. The amount of fibre and screenings it can remove is incredible, even if the headworks has perforated screens installed. It can remove cotton buds, hair, rags, plastic and fibre.

Long term there is less accumulation of solids within the digester, resulting in less clean outs which are costly. The marketability of biosolids is enhanced due to the pre-screened biomass said Hydroflux Group Director John Koumoukelis.

The HUBER Strainpress® is an inline pressurised screen designed specifically for removing screenings from primary and secondary sludge. It can also be used as a raw sewage screen. HUBER have supplied over 1500 units to municipal plants around the world, and there are several installations across Australia.
