Unitywater has awarded Hydroflux HUBER with a contract for the supply and commissioning of three (3) HUBER Rotary Screw Thickeners, to thicken waste activated sludge prior to digestion.
This advanced technology was selected due to its low life cycle costs, high performance and excellent track record on similar installations.

The HUBER Rotary Screw Thickeners
“The HUBER Rotary Screw Thickener is a slow speed, high efficiency sludge thickening process used to thicken sludge prior to digestion and/or dewatering to very high discharge solids which maximises digester capability. The technology provides water utilities with an energy efficient solution, completely fabricated from stainless steel to provide longevity” says John Koumoukelis of Hydroflux.
The installation includes three of the largest units, each processing up to 80 m3/h of waste activated sludge. Fabrication is entirely of 316 stainless steel, and the operating speed of the unique internal screw is less than 5rpm, providing low operating and maintenance requirements.
A number of sizes and configurations are available to cater for a wide range of sludge volumes.
