Accumulation of screenings and grit in anaerobic digesters leads to a number of process and maintenance issues. The well proven HUBER Strainpress, now operating in major Australian STP’s located in NSW, SA and WA, provides an effective and reliable method for removal of screenings from primary and/or mixed sludge streams.
Recent developments in the design of the HUBER Advanced Grit Washing Plant, now means that this well established technology can be used for removal of grit from sludge streams, prior to anaerobic digesters. The sludge/grit mixture is separated in a primary stage, consisting of a cyclone, with the underflow further separated, in a modified HUBER Grit Washing Plant. The two stages provide effective removal of grit from sludge, and allows for washing of the grit particles to produce a clean product for disposal.
The fluid bed washing system suspends the sludge particles and allows the denser grit particles to settle. The de-gritted sludge overflows from the classifier outlet via gravity, for transfer to the digesters.
A number of sizes and configurations are available to cater for a wide range of sludge volumes.
